Open Access Policy

Immediate access, clear author rights, and responsible reuse of published nursing research.

01. Open Access Statement

Media Keperawatan Indonesia (MKI) provides immediate open access to its published scholarly content. Articles are freely available online to readers from the date of publication without subscription fees, mandatory registration, or access embargoes.

The journal supports the dissemination, discoverability, and responsible reuse of research to advance nursing science, education, clinical practice, healthcare management, and policy. Open access to articles is distinct from any author-side publication fees.

02. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright to their published works and grant MKI the rights required to publish, distribute, and preserve the final published article, as described in the journal’s Copyright and Licensing Policy.

MKI publishes articles under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license, as indicated by the licensing notice applicable to the article. The precise license version and any article-specific rights statements should be checked in the published record; the applicable terms are not changed retrospectively merely by updating this policy.

03. Permitted Access, Sharing, and Reuse

In accordance with the CC BY license applicable to each article, readers may access, read, download, reproduce, distribute, and adapt licensed material, including for commercial purposes, subject to the license conditions.

  • Give appropriate credit to the original authors and cite the source publication.
  • Provide a link or clear reference to the applicable Creative Commons license.
  • Indicate whether modifications were made.
  • Do not imply that the authors or MKI endorse a reuse or adaptation.

Images, figures, datasets, or other third-party material excluded from the article’s CC license require permission from the relevant rightsholder where the intended reuse is not otherwise permitted by law.

04. No Embargo and Article Accessibility

Final published articles are made accessible without an embargo. Where available, full-text articles, citation details, abstracts, and related article metadata may be viewed through the journal website and its public issue archive.

Requests for corrections of inaccessible or damaged files may be directed to the editorial office through the journal’s Contact page.

05. Author Self-Archiving

Authors may share and deposit the final published version of their articles in institutional or disciplinary repositories, personal academic webpages, and other lawful scholarly platforms, subject to the license and any identified third-party restrictions.

Authors should retain the article’s citation, DOI where assigned, the journal name, and a link to the version of record. Earlier manuscripts and accepted versions should not be represented as the final version of record.

06. Article Processing Charges and Editorial Independence

Free access for readers does not mean that every stage of publishing is free of author-side charges. Any applicable article processing charges, waiver arrangements, and payment conditions are described separately in the Article Processing Charges Policy.

Editorial and peer-review decisions are based on scientific quality, scope, and ethical integrity, and must not be influenced by whether publication charges are payable or waived.

07. Long-Term Access and Integrity of the Scholarly Record

MKI seeks to maintain discoverable and accessible published content and metadata over time. The journal’s preservation arrangements, including its enabled LOCKSS functionality in OJS 2, are described in the Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy.

Published articles may be subject to corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions under the journal’s post-publication policies. An open-access license does not eliminate the responsibility to maintain an accurate and transparent scholarly record.

08. Policy Applicability and Related Guidance

This policy applies to the journal’s public access model. For the licensing terms of a particular article, readers and authors should consult the licensing information displayed with that publication, especially for earlier content.

MKI supports the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative and the responsible application of Creative Commons licenses.
