Aims and Scope

Media Keperawatan Indonesia (MKI) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal dedicated to advancing nursing knowledge, research, education, leadership, and evidence-informed practice. The journal provides a platform for scientifically rigorous work that informs nursing practice, patient outcomes, healthcare delivery, professional development, and health policy.

MKI welcomes research conducted in Indonesia and other countries. Manuscripts are evaluated on their originality, methodological quality, ethical integrity, and contribution to the wider nursing literature. Research situated in a local or national context is welcome when its findings are clearly contextualized and the implications for nursing science, practice, education, management, or policy are explained.

Scholarly Contribution and Article Types

MKI considers empirical research using quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, experimental, observational, methodological, or implementation designs, as well as rigorous evidence syntheses. Other article types may be considered where explicitly permitted in the current Author Guidelines. Each submission must match the selected OJS journal section.

Manuscripts should clearly identify a knowledge gap, explain their contribution in relation to relevant national and international literature, and provide a balanced interpretation of findings and limitations. International relevance does not require research to be conducted across multiple countries.

Language and Integrity

MKI accepts manuscripts in English or Indonesian in accordance with the current Author Guidelines. An English title, abstract, and keywords are required. Submitted work must meet applicable ethical standards, reporting guidelines, and the journal's policies on originality, transparency, and conflicts of interest.

Media Keperawatan Indonesia (MKI) conducts editorial screening followed by independent external peer review for manuscripts that meet its initial requirements. Editorial evaluation emphasizes originality, scientific contribution, methodological rigor, transparency, research ethics, and relevance to nursing research and practice.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

The editor evaluates the manuscript's fit with the aims and scope, scientific novelty and relevance, methods and reporting, language clarity, ethical declarations, submission completeness, and similarity-screening findings. Manuscripts outside scope or with substantial scientific or ethical deficiencies may be declined before external review; correctable submission deficiencies may be returned to the author.

2. Reviewer Selection and Double-Blind Evaluation

Manuscripts passing initial screening are assigned to an appropriate handling editor. At least two independent reviewers with relevant subject and methodological expertise are ordinarily invited. Reviewer selection takes account of expertise, independence, availability, and disclosed competing interests. Reviewers provide confidential, constructive evaluations. Manuscripts and review files must be prepared to conceal the identities of authors and reviewers from one another.

Editors and reviewers must avoid inappropriate influence and disclose personal, academic, institutional, financial, or professional relationships that could compromise impartiality. Editors with relevant conflicts must transfer the handling of the manuscript to an independent editor.

3. Scientific Review Criteria

• Originality, significance, and contribution to nursing knowledge or practice;
• Appropriateness of design, sampling, instruments, data collection, and analysis;
• Validity and transparency of results, conclusions, and limitations;
• Adequacy of ethical protections and reporting;
• Engagement with relevant research and appropriate wider scholarly context;
• Clarity of scientific language, structure, and presentation.

4. Editor Decisions in OJS 2

Reviewers submit recommendations; editorial decisions are made by the handling editor under the Editor-in-Chief's oversight. MKI uses the following four editorial decision categories in OJS 2:

Terms such as minor revision and major revision may describe the extent of work in correspondence, but are not additional editor decision categories in the OJS 2 workflow. Decisions are communicated with reasons and instructions as applicable.

5. Revision and Further Review

For revision requests, authors submit a revised anonymized manuscript and a point-by-point response identifying how each reviewer and editor comment was addressed. Under Revisions Required, the editor assesses the revised submission. Under Resubmit for Review, a new round of review is initiated. The journal may decline a manuscript when major concerns remain unresolved.

6. Editorial Independence and Research Integrity

Editorial decisions are based on scholarly merit rather than author identity, institutional affiliation, financial arrangements, or article processing charges. Concerns involving plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication or falsification, authorship, competing interests, or other research misconduct are evaluated under the applicable ethics policies, with reference to COPE guidance where relevant.
