Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy
LOCKSS availability, responsible long-term preservation, and continuity of the published scholarly record.
01. Purpose and Preservation Commitment
Media Keperawatan Indonesia (MKI) is committed to supporting the long-term availability, discoverability, integrity, and responsible preservation of its published articles and associated scholarly records.
Digital preservation is a continuing process that includes maintaining access to the journal website, enabling appropriate preservation mechanisms, and coordinating with responsible technical and institutional parties.
02. LOCKSS Functionality Enabled in OJS 2
MKI has enabled the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) functionality in its OJS 2 journal settings. This setting supports the availability of journal content and publisher permissions for eligible LOCKSS-based preservation workflows.
The activation of this functionality does not, by itself, establish that a participating LOCKSS network has harvested or securely preserved MKI articles. Successful distributed preservation is dependent on the participating network’s arrangements, eligibility, technical harvesting, and confirmation of ingestion.
03. LOCKSS-Based Distributed Preservation
LOCKSS-based archiving is designed to permit participating libraries and preservation networks to collect and preserve authorized copies of scholarly content for long-term stewardship and, where supported, restoration or continuing access.
MKI will coordinate with the relevant hosting or preservation stakeholders to verify that its publisher manifest and content are accessible to any preservation network that has agreed to collect the journal.
For background information, see the LOCKSS Program.
04. Journal Website, Content, and Metadata
The MKI journal website and issue archive serve as the primary public access points for published articles, citation information, abstracts, and related content.
Digital preservation planning encompasses, where applicable, the published full-text files, issue information, bibliographic metadata, license notices, article identifiers, and published updates. Journal staff should retain sufficient records to identify and restore the correct version of published content.
05. Institutional Backups and Recovery
Technical backups are distinct from distributed digital preservation. The journal will coordinate with its institutional hosting or information technology administrators on appropriate backup, security, and recovery procedures for OJS data, published files, and essential configurations.
Backup frequency, storage locations, retention periods, and recovery-test results should be documented in internal operational records and reviewed regularly. This policy does not claim a specific backup interval or a completed recovery test where verification is unavailable.
06. Repository Deposit and Author Self-Archiving
Authors may deposit permitted versions of MKI articles, including the version of record where the applicable publication license permits, in institutional or other legitimate repositories.
Repository copies should clearly acknowledge MKI as the original publication venue, cite the article appropriately, retain the applicable license notice, and link to the DOI or version of record where available. Third-party copyright restrictions remain applicable.
07. Corrections, Retractions, and Version Integrity
When a published article is corrected, retracted, or otherwise updated, MKI aims to maintain a transparent public record of the change while preserving the integrity and traceability of the original scholarly record.
Any DOI, Crossmark status, correction notice, retraction notice, or relevant metadata should be maintained or updated as applicable, consistent with the journal’s Correction, Retraction, and Withdrawal Policy and CrossMark Policy.
08. Continuity if Journal Publishing Is Interrupted
If MKI experiences a prolonged service interruption or ceases publishing, its editorial and publishing institutions will seek to arrange continued lawful access to the existing published record through available institutional systems, repositories, or any verified external preservation partners.
Long-term access is a preservation objective, not an unconditional guarantee of permanent availability by a named service unless that service’s preservation arrangements have been confirmed.
09. Monitoring and Evidence of Preservation
To support transparency and ongoing improvement, the editorial office should periodically review preservation arrangements and maintain relevant evidence, which may include:
- Confirmation that LOCKSS is enabled and the journal’s publisher manifest is publicly reachable.
- Correspondence or confirmation from any participating preservation network, when applicable.
- Available records of successful harvesting or deposit, if provided by the network.
- Institutional backup and recovery documentation maintained by the responsible technical team.
- Periodic checks of access to article files, issue pages, DOI links, and publication updates.
The journal will revise public preservation claims when new verifiable arrangements are established.
10. Scope of This Policy
This policy describes MKI’s documented LOCKSS configuration and its operational commitments. It does not claim current PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) participation or confirmed archival holdings in a LOCKSS library network without separate evidence.
