Post-Publication Discussion

Post-Publication Discussion

The Indonesian Journal of Dentistry (IJD) encourages constructive scholarly dialogue and critical engagement with articles published in the journal. The post-publication discussion mechanism provides an opportunity for researchers, practitioners, and other members of the academic community to submit comments, critical observations, questions, and clarifications concerning published articles.

The purpose of this mechanism is to promote academic exchange, strengthen the transparency and credibility of published research, and contribute to the advancement of dentistry, oral health, and related dental sciences.

1. Scope of Discussion

Post-publication discussions may address various aspects of published articles, including:

  • Theoretical foundations, conceptual arguments, and scholarly contributions.
  • Research design, methodology, data analysis, and interpretation of findings.
  • The validity, robustness, and clinical implications of reported results.
  • Alternative interpretations, limitations, and opportunities for further research.
  • Potential errors, inaccuracies, or concerns relating to research integrity and publication ethics.

2. Submission of Comments

Readers who wish to comment on a published article are invited to contact the editorial office of IJD through the journal's official communication channels. Submissions should identify the article concerned by providing its title, author(s), publication year, and DOI or article URL, where available.

Comments should be written in clear academic English, maintain a professional and respectful tone, and be supported by relevant evidence or scholarly references where appropriate. Submissions should focus on the scientific content and academic contribution of the article rather than on personal opinions about its author(s).

Personal attacks, defamatory statements, unsupported allegations, and comments unrelated to the scholarly content of the publication will not be considered.

3. Editorial Assessment and Author Responses

The editorial team will assess submitted comments for relevance, academic merit, clarity, and compliance with the journal's editorial policies and publication ethics standards. Where appropriate, the editorial team may invite the original author(s) to respond to substantive comments or criticisms.

Comments and responses deemed suitable for publication may be published as scholarly correspondence, a formal post-publication discussion, or another appropriate publication format, subject to editorial assessment and the journal's applicable procedures. The editorial team reserves the right to request revisions or decline submissions that do not meet the journal's academic and ethical standards.

4. Publication Ethics and Research Integrity

IJD is committed to preserving the integrity of the scholarly record. Concerns regarding potential errors, methodological shortcomings, plagiarism, data integrity, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or other possible breaches of publication ethics will be assessed carefully in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and applicable scholarly publishing standards.

Where necessary, the journal may consider appropriate editorial action, including the publication of a correction, clarification, expression of concern, or retraction, depending on the nature and severity of the issue and the available evidence. The submission of a comment or allegation does not, in itself, constitute evidence of research misconduct.

5. Fairness and Transparency

All post-publication discussions will be handled objectively, fairly, and independently. Where appropriate, authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond to substantive scholarly criticism. Editorial decisions will be based on the academic merit of the submission, the evidence presented, and the journal's editorial and ethical standards.

IJD welcomes constructive criticism and evidence-based scholarly exchange as essential components of academic progress. Through this mechanism, the journal seeks to foster an open, responsible, and rigorous research environment in dentistry and oral health.
