Abstract
Hypertension is high blood pressure that occurs due to an increase in systolic blood pressure that exceeds the normal value of 140 mmHg and the normal diastolic value of 90 mmHg. Hypertension in the elderly is caused by the emergence of the cardiovascular system. Another cause of hypertension comes from food intake, such as cholesterol, sodium, and another factor that is often ignored is sleep quality. The research aimed to determine the relationship between cholesterol, sodium, sleep quality, and blood pressure in the elderly. This type of research is descriptive analytical with a cross-sectional approach. Blood pressure variables using a blood pressure monitor, cholesterol, and sodium using 24 24-hour recall, sleep quality using the PSQI questionnaire, and a sample of 57 elderly people using total sampling. Data analysis uses the Pearson correlation test. The results were more cholesterol (42.1%), enough sodium (100%), and poor sleep quality (68.4%). The results showed no relationship between cholesterol intake and systolic blood pressure (p= 0.264, r= -0.150), diastolic (p= 0.228, r= -0.162), sodium intake and systolic blood pressure (p= 0.090, r= -0), there is a relationship between sodium intake and diastolic blood pressure (p= 0.008, r= 0.0349), between sleep quality and systolic blood pressure (p= 0.204, r= 0.171), diastolic (p= 0.597, r= -0.072). In conclusion, there is no relationship between cholesterol, sleep quality, and blood pressure in the elderly. There is a relationship between sodium intake and diastolic blood pressure in the elderly
