The Effect of Smart Activity Book as a Distraction Effort on the Duration of Gadget Use in Preschool Age Children (4-6 Years)

Abstract


Preschool children are children aged 4-6 years. Early use of gadgets for more than 60 minutes a day can lead to children becoming addicted to playing with gadgets, which can disrupt their brain development. The importance of reducing gadget use duration early is to prevent hampering children's development. This study aims to determine the effect of smart activity books as a distraction effort on the duration of gadget use in preschool children (4-6 years) at Dharma Wanita Mangkujajar Kindergarten, Kembangbahu sub-district, Lamongan district. The research design was quasi-experimental pretest-posttest without a control group. Researchers provided interventions with smart activity books for 3 days. Before and after the intervention, the researchers observed the duration of gadget use. The number of respondents was 25 preschool children. Bivariate data analysis using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that there were differences in the pre-test and post-test aspects of the assessment of the duration of children's gadget use. The value of p=0.00. There is an effect of smart activity books as a distraction effort on the duration of gadget use in preschool children (4-6 years) at TK Dharma Wanita Mangkujajar, Kembangbahu sub-district, Lamongan district. Smart activity books can be a suitable alternative to reduce the duration of gadget use in preschool children. When playing smart activity books, children will be more focused on solving puzzles so that they are distracted from gadget-playing activities.
