Abstract

This study aims to reduce vehicle exhaust emissions namely CO and HC by using Gasolin E10 fuel, which is a mixture of ethanol fuel with a mixture volume of 10% and 90% gasoline and copper-SiO as catalytic converters mounted on the exhaust neck in the form of cavities . The hollow copper is conditioned with SiO and sintering at a temperature of 750oC, serves to open the copper pores wider. The results of the study are using E10 gasohol fuel and installation of copper-SiO as a catalytic converter can reduce CO so that the amount decreases. HC levels also decrease in vehicle exhaust emissions. CO2 emissions in E 10 gasohol fuels are higher than gasoline fuels. This is influenced by combustion approaching complete combustion, so that CO and HC emissions are reduced. CO2 is increased because the CO and HC emission gases are burning into carbon dioxide. The installation of a copper-SiO catalyst as a catalytic converter is very effective, marked by the lack of CO and HC. But CO2 in the level of exhaust emissions rises both using premium fuel and E 10 gasohol fuel.
