Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is a global health issue that significantly contributes to the increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. Objective: This study aims to analyze the correlation between total cholesterol levels, pulse rate, and body mass index (BMI) with blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Method: This research employed an analytical quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 117 respondents were selected using a random sampling technique. Data collection involved the use of a sphygmomanometer for measuring blood pressure, a digital cholesterol meter for assessing total cholesterol levels, a stopwatch for pulse rate, and a digital scale and microtoise for BMI measurements. The data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test.. Results: The findings revealed a significant correlation between total cholesterol levels and BMI with blood pressure (p-value <0.05), while the correlation between pulse rate and blood pressure was not statistically significant (p-value > 0.05). The correlation coefficient indicated a strong and significant relationship for total cholesterol levels and BMI. Conclusion: This study is expected to serve as a reference for hypertension prevention and management efforts through the control of cholesterol levels and body weight.
