Abstract
Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a condition of cardiovascular disorders in which the heart is unable to pump enough blood so that the body does not get an adequate supply of oxygen and nutrients. Heart failure that stops blood flowing throughout the body will result in fluid retention in several organs, such as the legs which cause swelling or edema to impede the activity of the patients heart failure. This case study aims to determine the effectiveness of contrast bath intervention and 30 degree leg elevation in reducing leg edema in CHF patients. This case study uses a descriptive method with an approach to nursing care. Case study subjects were patients with a medical diagnosis of congestive heart failure, one respondent was collected with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Assessment of edema using an assessment pitting edema. Contrast bath therapy and 30 degree leg elevation are given approximately 20 minutes every morning and afternoon for 3 consecutive days. The result of the case study showed that the respondent experienced a decrease in degree III edema to degree II after being treated with contrast bath therapy and 30 degree leg elevation over 3 days. Contrast bath therapy and 30 degree leg elevation can reduce the degree of lower extremity edema in patient with congestive heart failure.
